How to Save Money on Baby Expenses
Babies are cute, but very expensive. In fact, during the first year of a baby's life the expenses can be downright overwhelming. Not only do parents have to deal with the very expensive hospital bill for delivery costs, but also all of the costs that come after that. Fortunately, there are many ways to save on baby costs that will cut down some of the expenses of raising a newborn.

Chances are you don't have the perfect insurance plan that will cover all of your delivery costs. If this is the case then keep in mind that every decision you make during your delivery will affect the cost of your child's first year. For example, getting an epidural is quite costly, and so you may want to consider going all natural. Keep in mind that this will be more painful, but you have to decide whether cost or comfort is most important to you. Additionally, you could save a substantial amount of money by sharing a recovery room.
Do it Yourself
You may be tempted to buy the highest-end formula or baby food when your newborn is old enough to eat it. However, be aware that the cost of this as well as disposable diapers can add up to $50 a week, which is about $2,500 a year simply on formula, diapers, and baby food. However, you can save a substantial amount of money if you prepare your own baby food by using the food that you buy for the rest of your family as well as breast feeding.
Be a Savvy Baby Clothes Shopper
Baby clothes shopping can be a very fun time, as there are so many adorable outfits to choose from for your little tyke's first year. However, your baby will grow out of clothes in a blink of the eye. Because of this, try to avoid the designer baby ware. Also, if you are throwing a baby shower beforehand ask people to buy baby clothes for all stages of your baby's first year, and not just the newborn stage.
Only Buy Items That You Need
There are plenty of cute baby items that you can purchase from bumper pads to toys. These may be cute, but not necessary if you are trying to save money. Keep in mind that many people will try to sell baby items on EBay and Craigslist after they have no use for them, and so this is a good place to look in order to get good deals on baby items. On top of this, yard sales and garage sales are also a good place to look in order to find gently used baby items that are a great bargain.
Borrow and Trade
If you have family members and friends that have children chances are you can get a hold of some great hand-me downs. If they do have clothes or items that they don't need any more then take them willingly and graciously. On top of this, if you have friends or family who also has a child then consider a babysitting swap.
Paying for a babysitter can be extremely expensive, and so babysitting swaps can be a great way to save money and still be able to get out of the house every once in a while. Just make sure that you completely trust the person that you are swapping with as you are leaving your precious cargo in their hands.
